The Model United Nations Club (MUN) allows students to learn about important world issues and attempt to find realistic solutions through research, debate and writing. Club members study issues like the disappearing rainforest, extreme poverty in developing nations and the use of children as soldiers or laborers. The official language of MUN is English, allowing the students to make rapid progress as they volunteer to read, write and discuss thes complex issues in their second language.
Each year, the club members prepare for both local and international MUN conferences with hundreds of other high school students. At the four day conferences, students represent a specific country, for example Israel, acting as diplomats meeting the representatives of other nations. They use their knowledge, practise their speaking and listening and roleplay their position.
The UOML club has participated in local confernces at Uskudar American Lisesi and the Koc School as well at international conferences in Tel Aviv, St.Petersburg and the upcomint trip to Oldenburg, Germany.
The Model United Nations program is supported by the real United Nations and students participate from all over the world, allowing our students to meet new people and experience new cultures while gaining an understanding of the difficulties and dangers so many people face in today’s world. Shouldn’t your child be involved in MUN?
